PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Clinical Staff is responsible for helping Physician Providers and Advanced Practice Providers by handling administrative and clinical duties in the office, along with performing preparatory procedures on pediatric patients or assisting with examinations.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This list may not include all of the duties that may be assigned.

  1. Maintain and prepare examination and treatment rooms by cleaning, sterilize instruments, dispose of contaminated supplies, keep rooms stocked with supplies; and prepare examination tables.  
  2. Interview patients and parents to obtain history regarding the reason for visit, symptoms and any other history required.  
  3. Document medications used, allergies and specialists seen in EMR  
  4. Record patient information in the electronic medical record (EMR) system. 
  5. Perform such duties as taking temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respirations; measuring height weight and head circumference as appropriate.  
  6. Administers injections, medications and assist providers during examinations as needed.  
  7. Perform lab proficiency testing, run in-house lab tests, prepare outside lab specimens, and check physician and lab orders for accuracy.  
  8. Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records. Maintain confidentiality of all patient information.   
  9. Completes lab orders to provide appropriate coding.   
  10. Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures while complying with legal regulations.   
  11. Know and adhere to KPP clinical protocols and HIPAA compliance.    
  12. Responsible for receiving and proper storage of vaccines.   
  13. Committed to excellence, best practices, compassionate and superior customer service with every patient and co-worker.   

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION

  • MA certificate preferred
  • CPR certification

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work courteously and respectfully with patients, co-workers and vendors.
  • Proven dependability by consistently being at work and on time and during scheduled hours, following instructions, responding to management direction and soliciting feedback to improve performance.
  • Strong organization, prioritization and multi-tasking skills required.
  • Must have an exceptional attention to detail.
  • Actively promotes and personally observes safety and security procedures and uses equipment and materials properly.
  • Skilled in preparing and maintaining medical records.
  • Ability to project a pleasant and professional image, through communications and neat/clean appearance.
  • Ability to deal with unique needs and personalities of children and their parents/caregivers.
  • Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care procedures.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations.
  • Knowledge of computer systems, programs and applications.
  • Knowledge of health care field.   

 

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Travel between offices/covering at other offices may be required.
  • Combination of exam and office setting.  Frequent exposures to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, possible blood borne pathogens and other condition common to a clinical environment. 
  • Varied activities including sitting, standing (sometimes for extended periods), reaching, bending, lifting up to 40 lbs., pushing/pulling.
  • Have the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity needed to operate an iPad, computer, photocopier/scanner, telephone, and other office equipment.
  • Utilizes normal vision to make patient assessment, refined hand movements for physical examination of patients, and normal speech and hearing necessary for extensive conversation.
