PRIMARY FUNCTION

 

The Director of Facilities is responsible for the strategic planning, maintenance, and operational management of all existing facilities across multiple clinic locations. This role ensures the efficient operation, safety, and compliance of facilities through the oversight of equipment, systems, and day-to-day maintenance activities. The Director also manages budgets and resources to support preventive maintenance programs and facility upgrades, ensuring a safe and effective environment that aligns with organizational goals and regulatory standards.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Direct daily department operations to achieve quality improvement, fiscal productivity, and patient satisfaction goals.
  2. Ensure continuous safety and efficient and economical operation of the organization’s equipment, machines, plant, and buildings.
  3. Primary representative with vendors and contractors for facility maintenance and renovation proposals.
  4. Manage day-to-day activities of utility projects (excluding new construction).
  5. Develop, coordinate, and administer preventive maintenance programs to ensure proper functional operation of all mechanical, electrical, and electronic equipment and systems. Ensure all standards and codes are met.
  6. Manage the organization's Environment of Care (EOC) program.
  7. Develop and oversee emergency preparedness plans and quick response procedures for mechanical, electrical, and electronic failures to minimize disruptions.
  8. Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, including AAAHC standards, OSHA, and other healthcare-specific codes.
  9. Manage physical space control, safety, and EOC for all satellite buildings and departments.
  10. Oversee the relocation of equipment and departments and ensure optimal space utilization within the existing facilities.
  11. Develop and submit annual budgets for facility operations, including maintenance and utilities.
  12. Ensure budgetary goals are met within operational guidelines.
  13. Lead and manage the facilities staff, ensuring training, performance evaluations, and adherence to organizational policies.
  14. Promote a customer-oriented culture within the facilities department by setting clear service expectations and maintaining effective communication.
  15. Ensure that departmental requests for services are responded to promptly and efficiently.
  16. Develop and communicate project priorities and timeframes to internal departments.
  17. Oversee company security measures for all clinic locations, ensuring facility security is aligned with organizational standards.
  18. Ensure adherence to all healthcare-specific building and operational codes, including OSHA requirements related to facility design, equipment, and patient safety.
  19. Coordinate with the technology department to implement smart building technology and energy management systems for operational efficiency.
  20. Lead sustainability initiatives, focusing on energy-saving measures, waste reduction programs, and promoting green practices across all clinic locations.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversee facilities maintenance staff.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s Degree: engineering, architecture, real estate or construction management degree or related field.

EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of 3 years’ experience required, previous supervisory experience in healthcare.

 

LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION

Certified Healthcare Engineer (CHE) or Certified Healthcare Facilities Manager (CHFM) desired.

Upon hire, and for the duration of the employment period, a driver’s license must be active and valid.

  • Effective communication, computer, presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of project tracking software.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills; and Strong business management acumen.

 

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Non-patient facing
  • May rotate working in the office and remote/telework.
  • Working in a professional office environment.
  • The position involves high & frequent call volumes.
  • Environment requires ability to multi-task, communicate clearly & concise, data entry for extended period of times.
  • Will require sitting, standing, and walking for long periods of time.
