In-Office Position
Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 5:00 pm EST
Office Address: 301 Old Manchester Road Poughkeepsie NY 12603
 
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS Processing payments and refunds, setting up payment plans, answering account questions, researching account issues and collecting unpaid debt. Other patient account representative duties include printing bills, explaining insurance benefits to patients and helping staff with additional administrative tasks.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This list may not include all the duties that may be assigned.
1. Prepares and submits clean claims to third party payers either electronically or by paper.
2. Manages monthly statement process, to include reviewing statements before mailing.
3. Works with Patient Service Representatives; ensures appropriate collection of co-pay, deductibles and self-pay fees.
4. Handles patient inquiries and answers questions from other staff and insurance companies.
5. Posts payments, adjustments, transfers of responsibility and refunds, as necessary.
6. Collects and balances all payments from patients made in the office, over the phone or online.
7. Evaluates patient’s balance and establishes budget payment plans or makes recommendations for delinquent accounts to be forwarded to collection agencies.
8. Investigates and corrects rejected and denied claims.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
 
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or GED.
EXPERIENCE: Previous experience working in a medical facility preferred.
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
 
• Great interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Sound knowledge of medical billing principles, standards, and regulations.
• Strong time management and organizational skills.
• Honesty and integrity when dealing with internal and external parties.
Exercises sound and efficient decision making.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Comfortability with confidentiality associated with management and healthcare.
• Ability to multitask and delegate. • Basic computer skills.
 
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
 
• Non-Patient-facing • Indoor office work environment
• Some occasional travel may be required.
• Full time during normal business hours
 
OTHER PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
 
• Ability to sit at a desk for extended periods of time.
• Ability to wear PPE as required.
• Lift and carry approximately 15 lbs.
• Intact senses relevant to the role
